Today I visited Mercury Hearing Ltd., Handcross and had ear impressions made up for tailor made ear plugs. I read an article about the company in the December edition of South East Biker (SEB). Mercury is a local company specialising in ear defenders for many sporting activities and occupations, including motorcycling use. They are made on the premises which keeps the cost down and make a range of ear plugs to take bluetooth hands free sets both to for headphones or with headphones wired in. There are many colours to choose from too. A soft impression material is put in your ear and allowed to harden. This is painless. It takes about 10 minutes for the material to harden and they supply you with a hot cuppa whilst waiting for it to harden. The ear plugs then go through several hand processes before being hand shaped and lacquered. The finished plugs are ready for collection and a fitment check in about a week or they can be posted to you. I went for their Pro Plugs which retail at £80 but if you mention that you read the article in SEB they will give you 15% off the price; instead of £80 I paid £68. Mercury recon they should last around 5 years ish. Apparently our ears are one of the parts of our body that continues to grow. For more information check out their website at www.mercuryhearing.com and see the leaflet link. Find them at Sycamore Court, Brighton Road, Handcross, West Sussex RH17 6BZ. 01444 400494.
