The BHDMC tour for 2018 will take in some of the most scenic areas of Europe over a ten-day period starting on Friday the 29th of June and returning home on Sunday the 8th of July.
The first night of the trip will be in Mons, Belgium approximately 150 miles from Calais allowing the group to assemble and enjoy a pleasant evening discussing the adventures that lay ahead.
The following morning will see us heading east for approximately 210 miles to the Moselle region of Germany where we will be staying for 3 nights. We will be staying close to the Historic town of Cochem. The Reichburg Castle, multiple vineyards and Old town are well worth a visit. If you are still needing your fix of riding, the excellent roads in the area are there to explore. For those wanting a challenge the Nürburgring and the Eifel mountains are on your doorstep. Bernkastel and Vianden are also within easy reach.
Tuesday will see us leaving the Moselle and heading south 220 miles into the Alsace region of France. We will be staying very close to the town of Colmar for 3 nights and the roads in this area of France offer exceptional riding. You could head east into the Schwarzwald and try the B500. Bordering Germany and Switzerland, it has alternated between German and French control over the centuries and reflects a mix of those cultures. Its capital, Strasbourg, is centered on the Ill River’s Grand Île island, bordered by canals and home to the Gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg, with its animated astronomical clock.
We leave the Alsace on Friday heading towards the Ardennes, this will be the longest day of the trip with approximately 275 miles to cover. .We have 2 nights in the Ardennes, a hilly, green area which includes the River Meuse and its many tributaries. The Ardennes appeals to lovers of outdoor leisure activities, with the Ardennes forest, the Trans-Ardennes Greenway, and the lakes of Bairon and Les Vieilles-Forges. It also has plenty for architecture fans, with the immense Sedan Fortress, fortified churches of Thiérache, prestigious Place Ducale in Charleville-Mézières and the star-shaped fortified town of Rocroi.
On Sunday morning, we head to Calais with 200 miles ahead of us as we return home.
