MANX GP 2003

Update May 03

As you may know, The Motorcycle Workshop intends to enter a motorcycle in the Manx Grand Prix on the Isle of Man in August 2003. Our entry has been accepted for the newcomers race on Monday 25th August, and we have also been placed in the reserves for the senior race on Friday 29th. In the past six months, preparations for the event have begun to take place.

The Bike

After testing our original choice of bike, a Yamaha TRX, at Rockingham circuit, and at Snetterton, we began to have doubts as to how easily it would qualify for the race especially as the lap time for qualifying has been reduced by one minute for this year’s event. A decision was made to look for an alternative. This has resulted in the purchase of an Aprilia RSV Mille to enter.

The bike is fully race prepared and is now at our premises having final checks before being tested, and, possibly entered into a club race meeting at Brands Hatch in Kent at the end of June.

The Team

Our team, which will go under the banner of “Team Workshop”, consists of the rider Phil Harman, three mechanics- Tony Masters, Bob Masters and Bob Craft. Sponsorship & publicity coordinators are Mark Young and Jeanette Masters. Photography is courtesy of John Brooke who, is well known for his high quality publicity pictures in the race industry (as well as being a very good race car driver!)

We are also arranging to have press coverage by the “Mid-Sussex Times”.

Sponsors

Many of our regular customers have already made pledges of financial help and essential items, such as, sets of tyres etc. For these, we thank you and now ask that you honour these pledges.

Please contact us if you are interested in sponsoring us in this event.

No matter how small your contribution, it will be greatly appreciated. Please ask your employers if you feel that they may be interested too. We will be happy to display company names and logos on the bike and the race transport vehicles for those who wish it, and we will provide a framed photograph of the bike and team. We have set up a dedicated bank account for this purpose and receipt will be issued so that businesses can account for any monies donated.

Moral Support!

(For those of you who wish to join us on the Island to cheer Phil on!)

The Isle of Man is the road racing capital of the world. Just one lap of the circuit is just over 37 miles long! The Manx GP is an event everyone with an interest in motorcycles should experience – less “manic” than the TT, but still very fast. Also, for those who enjoy the sound of Classic machines running with open pipes, the Manx GP has Classic bike races too. The Isle of Man isn’t just about bikes, there are plenty of sights to see and places to visit, and as racing takes place on the Monday, Wednesday and Friday of race week, it leaves plenty of time for “chilling out” and enjoying the other aspects of this historic island.

So come along and support Phil and the rest of the guys. There are loads of hotels, B&B’s and campsites on the island, but don’t leave it too long before you book for the best choice.

If you want any more information, please contact us.
